Mineral pumice is a product that is used in many different industries such as construction. The use of mineral pumice in various industries has caused many people to be active in the field of producing it artificially and extracting it in mineral form. Today, in this article, we have decided to introduce you to construction pumice
What is a building shell?
Wake is one of the materials that can be used in various industries. Generally, there are two types of pumice, mineral and artificial. Mineral pumice is actually porous igneous rocks. We all have seen this type of pumice stones, they are the same as pebbles and they look like pebbles. The release of gases and their rapid cooling from inside the glass deposits cause porosity. Pumice and scoria are mineral pumice of volcanic origin. But other examples of mineral pumice are igneous pumice and other examples are diatomite pumice that are formed due to sedimentation. According to these explanations, it can be said that mineral pumice is usually found in volcanic areas. In Iran, the areas where mineral pumice can be extracted include Damavand, Bostanabad in Tabriz, Qorveh in Sanandaj, Babak city in Kerman province, Sarein in Ardabil province, Gonabad in Razavi Khorasan province. However, the best and highest quality mineral pumice in Iran is related to the city of Qorveh in the Kurdshin region.
Generally, the quality of mineral pumice depends on the amount of porosity, density, temperature, pressure and the time it takes to turn them into stone. Construction pumice is one of the types of mineral pumice that is used in various construction applications such as; It is used in floor construction, roof construction, roof slope, in the construction of blocks, concrete and columns. In addition, mineral pumice is extracted in different types of almond, lentil, pea and sand. The difference in construction pumice types is due to the difference in the weight and size of the pumice grains, and according to that, it is determined that, for example, in building slopes, hazelnut pumice, which has a size of 10 to 20 mm, is the best option.
What is the use of mineral shell in construction?
As mentioned above, it is one of the most important and common applications of mineral pumice in construction. Low weight and high strength make these materials very useful in the civil and construction sector, especially in the production of light materials and lightening of building structures. Many applications of construction pumice include; It is used to make light but high-strength concrete, facade cementation, building stone facades and fountains, building slopes, isolation of pipes under water in rivers, building floors. However, the main use of this material is in the construction industry. , mentioned its use in concrete stone components, building facade, road coating, supplementing different mortars, repair, maintenance and road construction. However, the unique properties of this material have allowed it to be used in various sectors of the construction industry. In general, these features, which are the reason for the widespread use of pumice stone in construction, include the following:
High resistance of mineral pumice against moisture and heat
One of the issues that has caused mineral pumice to be used abundantly in construction is its high resistance to moisture and heat. According to the above explanation, it is natural that pumice has high resistance to heat. Unlike other materials, this material does not cause disaster when it comes in contact with moisture and heat, so it is widely used in construction.
Light weight of mineral pumice
< The formation of mineral pumice is such that the mineral pumice takes on a porous shape (holes), which makes the pumice light in weight, although its light weight does not affect its resistance. On the contrary, the amazing feature of pumice is that it is very resistant while being light weight. Now, what is the advantage of pumice's light weight in construction? It should be said that the dead weight of the building constructed with mineral pumice is very light and due to the resistance of the light pumice grains, the building will be earthquake-proof to a large extent. Sound insulation.
One of the frequently asked questions in discussing the benefits of using mineral pumice in construction is "Why is mineral pumice used in construction?" In answer to this question, we can say that due to the presence of tiny air bubbles in pumice, these materials are one of the best sound insulators. The use of these materials in construction reduces noise pollution. Currently, due to the increase in building construction in the form of multi-unit apartments and tall towers, the issue of insulating structures is very important. Due to the high costs of insulating walls and buildings, many builders prefer to use pumice for this purpose.
What is the mineral shell used as on the floor of the building?
Flooring is usually done in two ways. For this purpose, both concrete foam and pumice can be used. Whether it is better to use concrete foam or pumice will be discussed further, however, it is better to know that pumice flooring is done in two ways: 1. In the first method, tilting and chroming in They are done first, then pumice seeds are spread on the surface in a completely dense and uniform way. After that, a mixed layer of sand and cement is placed on the pumice stones and a smooth surface is created. Pumice is mixed with cement and water and placed on the desired and inclined surface. In this case, unlike the first method, there is no need to condense.
Why is a mineral shell on the roof of the building?
The use of mineral pumice in construction is very high due to the features and advantages of this material. One of the notable features of pumice can be its low weight. The low weight of pumice has made this material one of the most suitable materials for roof styling. In the past, it was more common to use materials such as brick, sand and cement, these materials are usually very good insulators against cold and heat. However, they have not performed well against floods and earthquakes. This issue has caused the construction industry to move towards lightening, because lightening will be more effective against earthquakes and floods. . But fortunately, at present, the use of pumice can have a great effect on reducing the weight of the roof and styling it. By simplifying the roof, there will be less worries about natural disasters such as earthquakes.
